My name is Katie. My NaNoWriMo username is quixotic_hope, though nobody on the chat rooms ever felt like spelling out the whole thing, so my name was shortened to quix. I have been introduced by both names, and I will respond to either. I live outside of Atlanta. I have a BA in English from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s in teaching from Mercer University.

I’ve always loved books. When I was little, my mother would tell people that I knew how to read even though I couldn’t – I just knew the stories by heart. On my first grade report card, my teacher wrote that I was very quite but loved to write stories. In second grade, I wrote my first “novel” called “The Very First Pet Leopard.” It features a girl who goes camping with her family and stumbles across her long-lost twin brother and a leopard. It is horrible, but it is the oldest story I have, and it amuses me.

Over the next decade, I wrote more. I wrote my first chapter-book in fifth grade, my first screenplay in eighth grade (based on the chapter-book). I started writing Harry Potter fan fiction in middle and high school. I participated in my first NaNoWriMo in 2007, my first Script Frenzy in 2008.
I took a few creative writing classes and wrote short stories for them, but I didn’t take writing seriously. I always knew that becoming a writer was my dream, but it seemed like the type of dream that would never really happen.

That changed November 2011. I wrote 222,545 words for NaNoWriMo. I realized I actually liked what I was writing. I wrote more. I started learning about the publishing process. I now know for a fact that I want to be a published author. I’m not yet sure if that means going the traditional route or the self-publishing route, but I know that I’m going to keep writing.

    • Awww, thanks! It was great meeting you, too! I have a feeling I’m going to have to re-evaluate my goals soon, but maybe I can turn that around in June. 🙂

  2. Hi Quix!! 😉
I’m a Wrimo, too! I’ve never come close to your 222K though! Last year I limped across the finish line with 50,010! ha ha
Becoming a published author is one of my dreams, too. I’m working on editing the 2012 NaNo, then will refocus on my 2010 novel afterwards.
    Nice to ‘meet’ you 😉

    • Hi Denise! I thought I replied to this when you first commented, but I’ve just noticed that it didn’t go through. That seems to be happening to me a lot lately, and I’m not sure why. 😦

But hi! It’s great to “meet” you, too! It’s always nice to meet others who are aiming for the same things you are. Hopefully we can encourage each other as we work towards our goals. 🙂

Anyway, it’s wonderful to e-meet you and I look forward to reading more of your words. Celeste 🙂
